PENANG STATE YOUTH COUNCIL

BRIEF HISTORY
The State Youth Council of Penang was formed 1948, in as an apex and co-ordinating body foe all youth organisations in the State. Besides promoting oconomic, social, physical and mental development, it also strives to instil the spirit of goodwill and service to the community, state and country as awhole. This will equip them for a matured and creative life in order to be a good and responsible citizen of the country.

The State Government of Penang has recognised the council as a sole body representing youth organisations in the country. It is also recognised as a consultative and advisory body in matters pertaining to youth. Before the independence it was known as " Majlis Belia Penempatan ".

OBJECTIVES
1. To ensure the practice of the principles of democracy and volunteerism in the youth work.

2. To disseminate the methods and technics in youth work.

3. To express ideas and suggestions to the government and other relevant bodies on youth matters.

4. To pave and strengthen relationship with other youth councils and youth organisations in Malaysia and overseas.

5. To help promote the development of youth activities and volunteerism among youth organisation through understanding and financial assistance.

6. To strengthen mutual respect in the society through youth activities and to instil thr spirit understanding, co-operation and goodwill.

7. To assist in the formation of new youth organisation to improve the future of youth movement.

8. To promote interest in economic, education and social activities among the youth in the State of Penang.

9. To instil the spirit of dedication and leadership among the youth.

10. To cooperate closely with agencies responsible for youth affairs for the good of youth movement in the State.
