NEGERI SEMBILAN YOUTH COUNCIL

BRIEF HISTORY
The history of youth development in Negeri Sembilan has existed for a long time. The Scouts and Girl Guides were pioneers as voluntary organizations comprised of youth. In the early 1950s, during the Emergency, many youths were influenced by the communists because at that time there were no associations to carry out beneficial activities. Thus, the communist ideology easily influenced young men and women in all corners of the countryside in this state to establish youth associations in their respective places. Social and sports activities were activities carried out by young men and women at that time.

Since many youth associations had been established in Negeri Sembilan, efforts were made to establish a state-level coordinating body for these non-uniform youth associations such as MAYC in 1959. After that, the youth associations did not join MAYC. Thus, the Negeri Sembilan 4B Youth Movement was established in 1968. Later, several state-level coordinating bodies were established such as Hindu Youth Negeri Sembilan, Tami Bell Negeri Sembilan, the Negeri Sembilan Branch of the Malaysian Youth Movement, the Negeri Sembilan United Youth Coalition and several other state-level coordinating bodies.

In 1964, with the efforts of several youth figures from Negeri Sembilan such as Joseph Siow, Ghazali Ahmad, Kan Koh Kuan, Norlia Hj. Talib, Manazis sponsored the Negeri Sembilan State Youth Council but this Council died out after being sponsored without any known reasons.

In 1968, youth leaders at the state level realized that it was time for coordination for state-level organizations to be established again because the National level had long existed, namely the Malaysian Youth Council which was established in 1948.

With the initiative of several youth figures from this state such as Ahmad Hj. Nasir and Ken Apadurey from Pengakap, Ghazali Ahmad, Yusof Daud and Yahya Pijar from MAYC, Siti Norjani from Pandu Puteri, Manaziz from St. John and others, they worked to bring the youths who were members of various organizations under one flag and spokespeople for the youth of this state in early 1969. This coordinating body was named the Negeri Sembilan Youth Council.
