MALAYAN YOUTH HOSTEL ASSOCIATION (MYHA)
BRIEF HISTORY
The Malaysian Youth Hostel Association whice was formes in November 1955 was only registered on 15th March 1957 (Ref. 1121 Selangor). The founder of the Association is Dr. John H. Newton who was first chairman of the association.
The Youth in Port Dickson in the first hostel owned by this association followed by the Youth Hostel in Kuala Lumpur and the Youth Hostel in Melaka. The association in affiliated to the International Youth Hostel Federation at International level and the Malaysian Youth Council at the national level.
The Association has obtained exemption of tax under Section 44(6) of the Income Tax Act of 1967 (Ref. YHDN 01/35/51/173: Government Gazzette LN 215/60 dated 25.8.1960).
Membership is open to all levels of society irrespective of race, religion and colour age 12 years and above are prepared to adhere by the rules and regulation of the Association.
OBJECTIVES
The foster goodwill amongst all people through proper understanding by providing hostel or other simple accommodation for them on their travels and this promoting their health, rest and education. For this purpose, association may:
1. Acquire by gift, purchase or otherwise, take on lease, establish and maintain premises where overnight accommodation may be provided at norminal charge.
2. Co-operate with other organisation to preserve the beauty of the country.
3. Co-operate with Youth Hostels Association in other countries and to promote international travel and friendship.
4. Encourage the co-operation with national voluntary organisations, statutory bodies and individuals.
5. Take any other action calculated to further these objects.
