JOHOR STATE YOUTH COUNCIL

BRIEF HISTORY
In 1954, the State Government of Johor took the initiative to set up a youth service scheme under the supervision of the Stat Welfare Services Department. The introduction of this service was to safeguard of the interest of the youth in the country in the face of the difficulties that the country was facing them. As a result, many what were then know as Boy's & Girls' Club ( Kelab Pemuda Pemudi ) were formed throughout the country. The name was later changed to Youth Association ( Persatuan Belia ).

The interest among the youth Leader in Johor to form an apex youth body emerged as a result of the intended visit of the President of the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) to the Far East whice included Johor Baharu. The youth leaders decided to form what was then known as 'Youth Council' in July 1984 in preparation for this visit with the cooperation of Mr. C.G.Wats, the State Director of Social Welfare Department. This Council was later named as " Majlis Belia Negeri Johor " (The Johor State Youth Council).

Among the youth leaders responsible for the formation of this Council were: Dato' Tan Sw Kok, Mr. Abu Bakar Kamat, Tan Sri Haji Othman Saat, Mr. Hoh Tek Ying, Mr. Cheah Teck Chiang, Mr. Ong Hang Chin and Haji Ahmad bin Ismail.

OBJECTIVES
1. To consider and promote the ways to strengthen voluntary and youth movement.

2. To consider matters for the welfare of affiliate bodies.

3. To endaevour to strengthen the position of affiliate members.

4. To foeward ideas and proposals to all approved youth organisations.

5. To promote the exchange of ideas among affiliate members and to establish contacts with national and international youth organisations.

6. To endeavour to form more youth organisations in order to promote the expansion of youth movement among the youth.

7. To encourage its affiliate members to respect to cooperative with each other with full understanding.

8. To encourage youth to be fully involved and to play their role with full responsibility in community work.

9. To widen knowledge and to promote interest in spiritual, educational, agricultural. Cultural and recreational activities.
