MUZIUM BELIA / YOUTH MUSEUM
HINDU YOUTH ORGANISATION MALAYSIA
BRIEF HISTORY
The motivating force whice brought about the Hindu Youth Movement was the availability of facilities for the study and practice of religion among youth of other faiths, vis-à-vis the absence of similar opprtunities for the Hindu Youths. It groups of 12 teenagers studying mainly in the mission schools assembled on Sunday Desember 1949 at the corridors of the Chettier's Hall at Ipoh Road, Kuala Lumpur and convited themselves towards what would become the Hindu Youth Movement of today. It was known them as YSG (Youth Spiritual Group). Later in 1951 it became a registered body known as the Kuala Lumpur Distric Hindu Youth Organization.
The determination of the Hindu Youths was the appearance of the Klang Hindu Youth League. The years 1957 brought another milestone in the Hindu Youth Movement when the Klang HYO was registered and the Ipoh HYO was formed and registered. With three HYO's in differences places in the country, the need to establish rapport and closer link was realized. With this in mind, about 200 Hindu Youths from Kuala Lumpur, Kelang and Ipoh attended the First National Hindu Youth Covention in Ipoh on 27 29 December 1957. It was at this convention that the birth of the Malayan Hindu Youth Council took place.
