BRIEF HISTORY
The Boy's Brigade was formed in Glassgow on 4 October 1883 by Sir William Elexander Smith. It is a uniformed youth organisation whice is the oldest in the world. Now it can found in 60 countries around the world.
Boy's Brigede was introduced in Malaysia by Mr. Robert Davis and Mr. Geh Hun Kheng who was the first Captian for Boy's brigade Company in penang whice was also the first Boy's Brigade Company to be formed in Malaya in September 1946.
When Malaya achived independence on 31 August 1957, Boy's Brigade was given the opportunity in the celebration.
On 5 December 1964, the Federal of Malaya Boy's Brigade Council was replaced by the Boy's Brigade of Malaysia.
Now there are 51 Boy's Brigade Companies throughout Malaysia. In 1989, permanent staff were employed for the first time to work at the National Secretariat in Kuala Lumpur.
OBJECTIVES
1. The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among boys and the promotion of the habits of the Obedience, Reverence, Decipline, Self Respect and all that tends towards a Christian Manliness.
2. Providing a meaningful and enjoyable programme of educational, physical, spiritual and social interests.
3. The development of the habits of discipline, self-respect, smartness and teamwork through the framework of uniform, badges and drill.
NATIONAL COUNCIL OF YMCA
BRIEF HISTORY
YMCA movement (Young Men Christian Organisation) came to Malaysia since 1900. YMCA Kuala Lumpur was established in 1905 followed by several others throughout Malaysia.
The National Council of YMCA Malaysia initiated in 1950 to co-ordinate YMCA activities in and outside Malaysia. YMCA National Council of Malaysia is a National Movement with close connection with YMCA Asia based in Hong Kong. However, each national Council in independent and has its own way and method of organisation based on its own need and national aspiration.
YMCA is an international organisation based on the principles of christianity. Its membership is open to all, including women, with good behavior and sympathetic to the objectives of the organisations.
OBJECTIVES
The YMCA seeks to transcend all divisions and barriers of class, race, nationality and political opinion. The association as a Christian movement Seeles to provide young people with opportunities for the development of the whole personality body, mind and spirit.
