A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE NATIONAL YOUTH SKILL INSTITUTE (IKKBN) OR YOUTH TRAINING CENTER OF DUSUN TUA (P.L.B.T.N)

BRIEF HISTORY
The Youth Training Centre of Dusun Tua was established on 22 September 1966. Previously the premises had been a Rest House which had been built in 1906. At that time, the compound comprised some 40 acres, with a hot spring in the vicinity. The hot spring attracted local and outside visitors to the place which was arest house until 1940.

By 1941, when Japanese offensive in Malaysia began, the compound was taken over by wounded in the war. The Japanese occupied the place for three years, from 1941 to 1943. The remnants of the Japanese occupation can be seen to this day, e.g. the Japanese Bunkers. Built to protect the compound during the war.

After the Japanese defeat, the place was taken over by the British for about 2 years as a training base for soldiers. Thereafter, the compound became a military camp of the Malaysia Army for 5 years. After World War II the place served the Police Field Force as a training camp for 5 years.

On 22 June 1966, the compound became a youth training camp operated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as the result of a memorandum presented to the cabinet of Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj in January 1966. The Dusun Tua Youth training centre is located some 27 km south-east of Kuala Lumpur and has at present a surface of about 20 acres.

This batch of trainees to enter consisted for 85 students with a teaching staff of 25 (22 instructors and 3 teachers). Vocational training was held in 5 trades i.e. motor mechanics, radio and television repair work, construction, farming and tailoring.

OBJECTIVES

To provide facilities for training youth to be disciplined and skilled, as well as efficient.

    1.3 Training in vocational skill
    1.4 Support facilities and services.

2. Operational Objectives
    2.1 To provide training is discipline to 1,000 trainees for a duration of 12 months.
    2.2 To provide training in trade skills to 800 trainees for duration of 12 months.
    2.3 To provide supports facilities and services to 220 staff and 1,000 trainees for a duration of 12 months.

ASEAN YOUTH COOPERATION COMMITTEE

BRIEF HISTORY
The Committee for ASEAN Youth Co-operation (CAYC) was formed at a meeting held in Jakarta, Indonesia in September 1975. This meeting was attended by representatives of national youth organisations from five ASEAN countries.

The main purpose of the formation of this Committee is to serve as a coordinating body for the national youth organisations for ASEAN countries in order to promote peace, good and greater co-operation for mutual benefit.

The permanent secretariat of CAYC is situated in Malaysia at the International Youth Centre, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

OBJECTIVES
1. To widen and spread the sense of belonging to the ASEAN ideal and further cultivate friendship and solidarity.

2. To promote peace, goodwill and greater cooperation among ASEAN member countries.

3. To promote and facilitate joint youth programmes.

4. To promote better understanding and exchange of information.

5. To establish and maintain relations with international organisations, government and non- government organisations.

NATIONAL COUNCIL OF YMCA

BRIEF HISTORY
YMCA movement (Young Men Christian Organisation) came to Malaysia since 1900. YMCA Kuala Lumpur was established in 1905 followed by several others throughout Malaysia.

The National Council of YMCA Malaysia initiated in 1950 to co-ordinate YMCA activities in and outside Malaysia. YMCA National Council of Malaysia is a National Movement with close connection with YMCA Asia based in Hong Kong. However, each national Council in independent and has its own way and method of organisation based on its own need and national aspiration.

YMCA is an international organisation based on the principles of christianity. Its membership is open to all, including women, with good behavior and sympathetic to the objectives of the organisations.

OBJECTIVES
The YMCA seeks to transcend all divisions and barriers of class, race, nationality and political opinion. The association as a Christian movement Seeles to provide young people with opportunities for the development of the whole personality body, mind and spirit.
