THE WEDDING CELEBRATIONS
The engagement is usually tied for six months to a year depending on the agreement of both the families. After the engagement period is almost over, they will set the date of the wedding day of the couple-to-be. The groom’s side also would start sending money for expenses to the bride’s side according to the agreed amount.
Wedding celebrations usually take four days, normally Thursday to Sunday. On Thursday the village community will work together to set up the wedding tent and a stage. On Friday night, the bride and groom will be celebrated with liquor and various dishes consisting of fish and vegetables accompanied by singing and dancing performances.
The ceremonial highlight is on Saturday where the bride will be radiantly decked out in white silk kebaya dress and wearing beautiful jewellery. The bridegroom will be attired in a black or white suit, a round hat and a formal bow tie around his neck.
