ENGAGEMENT CEREMONY
Upon merisik and it has been known that the woman to be married is not yet betrothed to anyone, then the next custom is to get engaged. In this tradition, a total of 6 to 7 men will visit the woman's family home with several gifts or hantaran including the engagement ring and two bottles of wine.
When the man’s entourage arrives at the women's house, they will exchange pantun poems before entering the house. The poem submitted by the woman’s side has to be answered by the man's group. After entering the house, the man’s family will present the gifts in the form of the hantaran to the woman’s side, then the engagement ring will be placed on the finger of the woman who is to be married. After the engagement ceremony, the guests will be treated to a light meal together.
