NANING HERITAGE AND HISTORY MUSEUM
MUSEUM OVERVIEW
Background of the Building
PWD (Public Work Department) building 2100 & 2101 was built around 1951, as Residence and Office of Penghulu Naning located at Bukit Naning (Bukit Pereling), Kampung Simpang Ampat, Alor Gajah Melaka. The Residence and Office were first occupied in 1953 by Penghulu Haji Mohd Shah bin Mohd Said al-Haj, (the 18th Penghulu Naning or Chief of Naning) as an administrative centre for Adat Perpatih Naning until his demise on June 13, 2004.
The Alor Gajah District Office has issued an evacuation notice to the previous owner of the building on March 2, 2015.; The said building was later on ceded officially to Melaka Museums Corporation (PERZIM) on April 9, 2015 for the conservation and maintenance works. Consequently, conservation and maintenance works were initiated on April 14, 2015, and completed on June 30, 2015 with the financial support from Tabung Amanah Pemuliharaan dan Pemugaran Negeri Melaka. This same building was recommended as the Muzium Warisan dan Sejarah Naning (Heritage Museum & Naning History) to accommodate the exhibition, as well as a one-stop information centre to attract more tourists. The establishment of this museum could also be a venue in the promotion of local products at the international level.
