THE DUTCH SHIP
This is a model of a Dutch ship used to transport goods faster and safer. It was built such that it could be manoeuvred close to the shore even in shallow waters
THE DUTCH CUPBOARD
Initially furniture was imported from Holland, but later they were made in Melaka or Batavia. This cupboard was made in Melaka during the Dutch era and according to Dutch designs. It can be taken apart and reassembled for easy transporting. This is an original piece.
DUTCH CLOCK
This clock is the same replica used in the Netherlands during the 17th century. It contains many symbols and has a unique sound.
SETTEE AND CHAIR
The settee and the chair beside it are parts of the furniture made in Melaka according to Dutch designs. Both are original pieces.
CEILING MANUAL FAN
The ceiling manual fan system was adopted in Asia including in this Dutch Governor’s office. A cord attached to the pulley of the rectangular fan enabled it to move sideways, creating air movements. A man would be stationed in the next room to pull the cord.
DUTCH CHANDELIERS
These types of chandeliers were used in the Governor’s residence, as well as in bungalows and churches in Holland during the 17th century. They were made of brass and can be taken apart and reassembled. Both these chandeliers are replicas.
DUTCH TABLE AND CHAIRS
This table is made of oak which is according to the style of the Dutch during the 17th century. It can be folded and shortened. The chairs are also from the same era. Both the table and chairs were used during official ceremonies and in the homes of the nobility. They are replicas of the originals in the Westfries Museum, Hoorn.
THE DUTCH DINING TABLE
This dining table was made in Melaka according to Dutch designs. It can be extended whenever required. This is an original artefact.

Hoorn was one of the Dutch towns from which Dutch ships sailed to Asia and Southeast Asia. This painting depicts the activities of Hoorn’s harbour during the 17th century. Now Hoorn exactly like twin of Melaka.
MAP OF SOUTHEAST ASIA
This reproduction of an Old Dutch map shows the lands and seas in Southeast Asia to aid the movement of Dutch ships. The captains of the ships then had been instructed to record all informations. Such maps also showed the monsoons, populations, clothing, coastlines, ports and sea routes.
PEWTER DRINKING SET
Most drinking sets of the Dutch were made of pewter once the Dutch gained monopoly of the tin trade in Perak. The items displayed here like the plates, goblets, spoons and wine glasses are replicas of those used during the 17th century.
DUTCH DECORATIVE TILES
Melaka became acquainted with decorative tiles during the Dutch era. The Dutch also produced ceramic crockery and exported colourful decorated tiles. There were two combinations of tiles, which depict a Dutch ship in the 17th century. The decorative tiles were made specially for Melaka during the Dutch period.
