The People’s Museum was officially opened to the public on 16th April 1992 in conjunction with ‘A Decade of Melaka: A Decade of Meaningful Melaka’ which was officiated by Dato' Seri Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia. This three-storey building was built in the 1960s which houses the Melaka Central District Municipal Council (MPMT) and was in use until the 1990s. It is believed to be built on the ruins of the Dutch buildings.
