PEOPLE'S MUSEUM
INTRODUCTION
The People’s Museum exhibits the development as well as the achievements gained by the state government in striving progress and realizing the hope to be a developed state. Apart from that, the museum introduces various races and cultures in Melaka namely the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Baba Nyonya, Chettiars and the Portuguese. The exhibition exhibits the origin of the society, traditional food, arts and folklores as well as traditional games.
The main exhibition includes administrative aspects, housing policy, social, industries, tourism, infrastructures and agricultures. These elements are the evidences of the people’ involvement as well as the government in developing Melaka. Its excellent achievement is dedicated in the exhibition on ‘A Decade of Melaka: A Decade of Meaningful Melaka’ known as the People’s Museum.
OBJECTIVES
Among its objectives are:
- To exhibit special issues related to socio-economic growth from the establishment of Melaka to the "Glory of Melaka"
- To educate the public to appreciate the achievements obtained, particularly in economics, politics, education, social services, tourism, industry and the relationship between the government and the citizens.
- To become the One-stop centre of information on Melaka
THE EXHIBITION CONCEPT
The exhibitions of the museum includes various aspects of administrative, housing policy, social, industrial, tourism, infrastructure and agriculture. It has been designed in such a manner to demonstrate the involvement of the citizens and the government in the development of Melaka. Moreover, information on Melaka as the UNESCO World Heritage City is also displayed to the public.
