PEOPLE'S MUSEUM
INTRODUCTION
Melaka is striving to enhance the development of the country's socio-economics in confronting the globalization development and international liberalisation. In accordance with the government's aspiration, Melaka Museum’s Corporation (PERZIM) had taken the initiative to update and add information in the People’s Museum so as to channel useful information to the visitors.
The exhibition includes the development achieved in administrative, social, economy and infrastructures aspects to further improve the standard of living of the locals abreast of the development in other states in Malaysia.
MELAKA STATE GOVERNMENT MISSION
To constitute Melaka as a glorious state of industrial centre and an ideal tourism destination through the provision of excellent infrastructures with the emphasis on information technology, efficient and quality services as well as human development in order to ensure life prosperity and fulfillment towards year 2020 based on the country’s visions.
ADMINISTRATIVE SECTOR
The exhibition on administrative sector provides information on the roles of Law, Judiciary and Executives Councils in developing the state. As the prime agents in the progress and the development of the state, this sector will display a few writings, pictures and illustrations on such matters :
- His Excellency of Melaka State
- The Executive Council
- The Chief Minister
- The Chief Minister Department and Government Department
- Agencies in State Development Council
- District Development Committee
- ADUN Development Committee
- Village Safety and Development Committee (JKKK)
- Various programmes to increase the efficiency of state management
- Organisational structure of administration and state management
ECONOMY SECTOR : INDUSTRY
The industry is the major instrument of development in the state’s economy. The state’s Industrial Development Programme in sculpturing Melaka as an Industrial state is accordance to the Economic Policy as well as the State Development Policy.
Consequently, with the above growth rate, this sector has contributed 40% of achievement in year 2000. The Industrial development in Melaka has notified an overwhelming revenue that until 1991, it has prepared as much as 30,946 job opportunities to overcome unemployment among the locals.
ECONOMY SECTOR : AIMS AND ROLES OF INDUSTRIAL PROGRAMMES
The aims and roles of the industrial sector are:
- To attract and encourage local and foreign investments in order to accelerate the
effort to mould Melaka as an industrialized state.
- To provide job opportunities as a way to decrease the unemployment rate and
migration of the locals
- To inculcate a skilled and experienced source of labours
- To equalize the development between the urban and rural areas
- To encourage and increase the bumiputeras’ involvement in industrial sectors
SOCIAL SECTOR : OBJECTIVES
The exhibition on social sector displays the plans and enforcement of various departments and government agencies through education, health, religion, welfare as well as social towards prosperity and progress. Undeniably, the quality of life is an asset in developing a state or a country.
INFRASTRUCTURES AND CONSTRUCTION SECTORS : MELAKA STATE HOUSING POLICY
Melaka State Housing Policy has the policy relevant to the National Housing Policy and National Housing Council. It coordinates and organizes the growth of housing sector for the people and to cater the needs of Tourism and Agricultural Industrial Sectors.
INFRASTRUCTURES AND CONSTRUCTION SECTORS : SECTORS
- to focus on the networking of the sectors as a basic necessity for economic growth
- to build a special route for motorcyclists and cyclists to reduce road accidents, increase road safety and all consumers’ safety
INFRASTRUCTURES AND CONSTRUCTION SECTORS : HARBOUR AND TRAINS
- to improve and make Melaka harbour as the industrial harbour.
- to transfer the lodging activity of Barter Trade in the river mouth of Melaka River to the river mouth of Linggi River and the river mouth of Sungai Rambai
- to make the river mouth of Melaka River as the passengers’ jetty and marine facilities for boats and other water transports.
- to continue the railway route to Tampin from Melaka
- to avoid road congestion in Melaka, LRT is the best alternative
INFRASTRUCTURES AND CONSTRUCTION SECTORS : SOCIAL WELFARE
The Melaka State Government channels the allocations of the Federal Government and State Government to the less fortunate as a way to provide assistance to them. The assistance is aimed to support incomes and ease financial difficulties to a certain period of time until they are independent. The less fortunate consists of senior citizens, disabled citizens, widows, children and disabled employees.
MELAKA STATE HOUSING STRATEGY
The strategies that have been planned and enforced by the state government:
- Enforcement of low cost housing projects by government agencies through open tenders, privatization and collaboration
- Coordinate the housing development of conditional verification, set boundaries, plan arrangement and building plan through a one- stop centre.

- To ensure development projects for areas concerned are feasible and benefited by the target groups
- Preserve and monitor religious institution
- Raise the standard of education through extra classes and educational guidance
- Organize social programmes through sports, social activities, economy and others.
DEVELOPMENT AND SAFETY OF THE VILLAGE
Functions
- to plan the society’s socio-economics developmental projects
- to decide on the implementation of main projects
- to carry out verified projects through gotong-royong or collaboration with government departments and voluntary organisations
- become intermediary body between the people and the government departments and others.
- responsible in assessing the performance of developmental projects
- supervise the profile of villages and store all the related records or documentation
