MUZIUM BELIA / YOUTH MUSEUM
THE BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE MALAYSIA YOUTH MESEUM
Youth movements in this country have had a foothold since the end of the 19th Century. It was felt that society in general and youths in particular had not shown paareciation for the historical development and the hiccups in the movement’s activities. Therefore, it is not surprising that Malaysian still have only a limited understanding and sensitivity towards youth activities.
As the umbrella organization of Malaysia’s youth associations the Malaysian Youth Council is fully aware of this situation and feels that rectification are required to afford youth association and admiration on the part of Malaysia’s multi-ethnic population.
The consensus was that the establishment of a Malaysian Youth Meseum would provide an opportunity to show the great importance, which the youth movement in Malaysia exerted directly or indirectly, in the context of the country’s history and of its socioeconomic development, at the State and National levels as well as in the international arena.
The existence of a Youth Meseum in this country is also closely in line with the efforts by the Malaysian Youth Council to promote the formation of a dynamic and progressive younger generation by the year 2020.
Thus the working committee of the Malaysian Youth Council, in its session of 30th September 1989 discussed and decided the formation of the Youth Meseum with the co-operation of the Ministry Malaysian Youth and Sport and the Malacca State Government.
It is hoped that the establishment of the museum will receive a positive general.
