ASIAN YOUTH COUNCIL
BRIEF HISTORY
The Asian Youth Council was inaugurated in Kuala Lumpur on 14 August 1972 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdul Razak bin Dato' Hussein with 14 national youth organisation from ASEAN countries in attendance. YAM Tunku Abdullah Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman was appointed as the 1st President. Kuala Lumpur was chosen as the Council's permanent secretariat.
The Council is a regional coordinating body for youth in the Asian and Pacific region. It is non-governmental, voluntary organisation seeking to promote peace, goodwill among member organisations in order to foster a greater international understanding and respect for the eide variety of rich cultural values in the region.
OBJECTIVES
1. Recoginse the Universal declaration of human right as the basic of its action and of its services.
2. Implement development programmes on the basic of university, economic, social and political justice.
3. Promote peace, goodwill and solidarity amongst member organisation and Asian nations in order to foster a greater international understanding and respect for the wide variety of rich cultural values in the Asian region.
4. Assist young people in Asia to focus attention on their needs and responsibilities as citizens of democratic societies.
