KEDAH STATE YOUTH COUNCIL

BRIEF HISTORY
With a strong desire to unite and work together for mutual benefit, the youth organizations in the State of Kedah decided to establish the Kedah State Youth Council with headquarters in Alor Setar. After several rounds of negotiations, the Kedah State Youth Council was successfully established in 1970.

Currently, the Kedah State Youth Council has 13 state-level youth organizations and 11 District Youth Councils from throughout the State of Kedah as its affiliated members.

GOALS
The task of this Council is to carry out the policies and plans of the Council and the Council's Affiliated Bodies, the decisions of the State Youth Council General Meeting and the Council's Working Committee from time to time, in addition to coordinating the plans of the Council's Affiliated Bodies.

OBJECTIVES
1. Striving to uphold and strengthen the principles of volunteerism in the Youth Movement.

2. Disseminate information and explanations on the techniques and activities of the Youth Organization Council.

3. Presenting opinions and recommendations to the Government, Statutory Bodies or other Bodies on matters relating to the Majlis Movement and other Youth Organizations.

4. Promote inter-racial understanding, cooperation and well-being through the Council's activities.

5. Helping to advance youth activities and encourage volunteer work through joint efforts, the development of work by Voluntary Youth Organizations.

6. Working closely with the State Government in improving the livelihoods of the people in this state, especially plans for the development of Youth.

7. Unite, organize and mobilize youth to take a positive role in national development to uphold a just society.

8. Promote and organize training and mentoring studies for youth in all areas of skills and knowledge.

9. Carrying out economic activities such as Business and Industrial Cooperatives with the following conditions: -

"All moneys and profits derived by this Council from its participation in any business or investment shall be used solely for the furtherance, advancement and carrying out of the objects of this Council and no part of such moneys or profits shall be used to pay interest, profits or bonuses to any member of the Council. Payments made in good faith, to pay salaries or expenses or both to any member or employee of this Council"

10. Striving to preserve, develop and defend the integrity of religion, Bahasa Malaysia and National Culture based on Malay Culture.

SUCCESS STORY OF A YOUTH PROGRAMME

This association was formed in Alor Setar, Kedah on 24th April 1968. Its main objective is to assist its members to continue their education up to university leval through avtive discussion among its members and lectures by interested individual such teachers, university student and others. Through its concerted efforts and hard work, this association has been successful in producing a large number of successful leaders in the fields of politic, academic, public service, entrepreneurship, education, social service and others.

This association is also avtive in doing social services for the local communities in the fields of education, agriculture, community services and others.

For its success in this unique programme, this association the National Youth award the Kurnia Belia Jaya in 1975 and the Nadezhda K.Krupskaya Prize from the United National Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) on 18th september 1991.
