SUBMARINE MUSEUM
SMD QUESSANT (AGOSTA CLASS 70)
Is a French-made diesel-electric attack submarine (SSK). Classified as a non-nuclear submarine.
Served by the Spanish Navy and the Pakistan Navy in addition to the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). Operated by 36 crew and 5 officers. Uses the MESMA AIP (air-independent propulsion) propulsion system
Built by the Arsenal de Cherbourg firm with an initial 4 Agosta 70 units, namely FS Agosta, FS Beveziers, FS La Praya and FS Quessant; served as a subsurface platform for the French Navy in 1977 and 1978. All ships were decommissioned in stages from 1997 to 2001 including SMD Quessant (S 623) which was purchased by the RMN as a training ship.
A more modern version was built for the Pakistan Navy, the Agosta 90B
SMD Quessant to be refurbished and converted into a maritime museum platform (as announced in July 2009)
