DIORAMA TUN KUDU

According to the Sejarah Melayu, Tun Kudu was the one of the Malays heroines that was important in the library of history of Melaka’s development, even though she never participated in any battle fields. Tun Kudu was the daughter of Bendahara Sri Wak Raja and produced golden deeds during the reign of Sultan Muzaffar Syah, around 1445 to 1458 A.D. After the death of Bendahar Sri Wak Raja, Sri Nara Di Raja Tun Ali was pronounced Bendahara and Sultan Muzaffar Syah married Tun Kudu. Tun Kudu had two brothers namely Tun Perak and Tun Perpatih Putih.

Tun Perak’s success in withholding a Siamese attack in 1446 made the Sultan realize the credibilities of Tun Perak. The wisdom of Tun Perak was closerred by the Sultan from time to time that he was the Penghulu in Kelang. For the sake of development and stability of Melaka, Sultan Muzaffar Syah appointed Tun Perak to be the Bendahara Paduka Raja ( Chief Minister), which was actually at per with Sri Nara Di Raja Tun Ali.

Tun Perak appointments as Paduka Raja brought dissatisfaction to Sri Nara Di Raja Tun Ali. This also resulted in strained relationships and disintegration among the Malays in Melaka. Tun Ali was worried that his position might be in jeopardy due to Tun Perak presence and his also made the Sultan worried and he wished to stop the disintegration. The Sultan tried had to find a way to resolve the dispute, so that the peace and stability of Melaka could be preserved.

The role of Tun Kudu was clear through this incident when the Sultan informer her of Tun Ali’s wish to marry her, even through at the same time she was already the queen. Tun Ali stood firm by his wish to marry Tun Kudu, even though the Sultan offered him to marry the daughter of other noblemen such as Tun Bulan, Tun Ratna Sendari and Tun Kanaka. Seeing Tun Ali’s obstinacy, the Sultan was willing to divorce Tun Kudu, for the sake of Melaka’s stability.

For the sake of peace in Melaka, the Sultan and Tun Kudu was willing to sacrifice even through it was very heartbreaking for them. After the ‘idah’ period, Tun Ali married Tun Kudu. Sri Nara Di Raja was very happy with the marriage.

Tun Kudu sacrifice was hot in rain, as after the incident, the relationship between Tun Perak and Tun Ali was back to normal. Tun Perak was made Bendahar Paduka Raja, while Tun Ali who had realized his responsibilities was appointed Penghulu Bendahari and did his share in developing Melaka. Tun Kudu’s willingness to sacrifice contributed to the preservence of Melaka’s integration during the reign of Sultan Muzaffar Syah, and she, at the same time has proven herself to be a true in valuable heroine.
